My clients are returning for a newborn session with their third little girl. Katelyn was welcomed with loving arms by her family. It seems like I was just photographing big sister Maggie for her newborn session, and I may add... they look so much alike, it was like photographing the same baby all over again.
I have three babies of my own... now they are 16, 13, and 7 years old. I remember each time a new baby was born, it was like my heart grew bigger with love for each new baby. It was like I just had my first baby all over again. So, I can imagine how my clients feel bringing in their second...third...fourth...babies. It's the same love they had for the first every time.
Posing for the newborn with parents is maybe my favorite part of the session. Sometimes I see new Mommies become overwhelmed with feelings and happy cry. I'm right there happy crying with them... Pregnancy is long and a hard road sometimes. I remember thinking it would last forever and then all of the sudden I was holding my new baby. The newborn session is emotional at times because baby will never be that little ever again. My own baby is learning how to drive these days... he was once a little 6 pound baby and now he's driving.
Katelyn was the little piece of the puzzle that makes their family complete.
When planning the newborn session ahead of time, I really have no idea how older siblings are going to act for the big sibling and baby part of the session. There are some exceptions like these sisters. I knew for sure that they would be so cooperative and gentle with the new baby. We achieved some family heirloom pictures for their family with these sibling images.
Katelyn's Mommy just told me to do whatever I want, she trusts me with artistry of the session... that's like music to my ears. I feel my most creative when I hear that... so I came up with this little set up of the garden bed and succulents. There's a little behind the scenes image at the end of the blog post of what it looks like when capturing this image.
She has such pretty baby features and detailed close ups... those baby feet with chubby toes and little baby fingers... Her button nose, baby curl, sweet profile are each a piece of art in itself.
You may recognize my clients from a recent blog post featuring their maternity session. Here is the link to see what they looked like before Katelyn arrived:
