Aviana's Boho Cake Smash Session. Baby's first birthday
Lace, fresh flowers, teepee, piggie tails, oh my... the makings of a bohemian cake smash session. I met Aviana as a newborn baby. She has always been a dark haired beauty. We even dressed her in lace at the newborn session. For her cake (isn't it beautiful?)... her Daddy made it! We added the freshly cut flowers on top to complement the theme (non toxic flowers only) .
For the one year session, I always recommend to photograph the immediate family as a small part of the session. It marks an important time in baby's life and she will want to remember how her family looked when she was little. I also plan ahead of time with the parents (Mom mostly... it's a girl thing I guess) to hear about their ideas and plans for the birthday party. Parents are responsible for bringing the cake and decorations. I have a few cake stands and props to bring along, but props are mainly the job of the parents to bring. Her Mother brought along this teepee and a bouquet of flowers. I'm not a florist... but I simply tied the flowers to the teepee and think it looks pretty cute.
A question frequently asked is about clean up... after all the fun of the cake smash, cake is messy and I do stay to help clean up. I never leave a location without cleaning... that's just not cool to leave a mess. I also will not photograph something like glitter out on a location. There's no way successfully to clean confetti or glitter and I would never want to compromise the professional relationship I have with my private property locations.

Matthew's four month milestone session. When a baby is little, four months happens so quickly and makes such a difference in everything. They look so different, they can smile and giggle, they can (sometimes) prop up for tummy time. Seems like it happened in the blink of an eye. I've included some comparison images from his newborn session just to show how much he's changed.
Matthew's Daddy is a plumber... I thought his plumber's crack was mighty cute!

Angela 
<3 I have seen this girl grow up in front of my very eyes. She's a cousin of ours and one of my very first "Mini Session" clients from back when she was a toddler. I know she is going to be a success at whatever she does and am looking forward to seeing her spread her wings and fly.

Even though there is many beautiful newborn babies in my work, I still photograph seniors... and love them! For Angela's session, we met in Galveston and did a little tour of locations. I hopped in the car with her Mom and we drove around and stopped whenever we saw something with character. There's so much character in Galveston because it's a historic city. Many of the buildings we used as backdrops were over 100 years old.
In a senior session, I recommend the client to have at least 2 clothing changes. In the previous group of images, I looked for a location that would complement the black and white in Angie's dress and hat. For her red lace top, I looked for a location with warmer color bricks like the peach/red as shown on the brick building. For variety in the session, she changed from the black dress to the red top. Keep in mind, I do not bring a dressing room with me, so clients change in vehicles (just like the supermodels do, right?)
Downtown Galveston is only about 10 minutes from the beach. So just before the sun started to set, we left downtown and headed for the beach. There's a spot on the beach called The Pleasure Pier that provides a fun and colorful backdrop we used for the last part of the session.
You can't tell just by looking at her beautiful smile and sundress... but it was soooo unseasonably cold and windy for this session. That's the kind of girl Angela is... no complaining from her... she said "it's no big deal, I'm used to this"... as my teeth were chattering from the cold.
