Ben's Newborn Session by Houston Texas Newborn Photographer Debby Ditta Photography

When is the best time to schedule a newborn session?  This is a question often asked by expectant parents.  I recently heard from a Mother that literally just tested positive on the stick...hasn't even told her husband yet... and texted me with the good news.  I am thrilled that she values newborn photography so much and expressed her excitement with me.  She made me feel like a part of her family.  Then there are Mothers that are due the next day and are worried that it may be too late to schedule a session.  There's good news for last minute kinda gals... sometimes I can schedule a last minute newborn.  I reserve a couple days for newborn babies each week, since they arrive on their own schedule most of the time... if there were no babies born in a certain week then I may be able to accommodate a last minute scheduling.  A client can still have a unique and custom boutique experience with short notice and last minute planning.

Take for instance beautiful newborn baby boy Ben.  His parents quickly found me last minute through a referral... from another sweet client during their Christmas Session.  Ben's mother notified me on her due date ... still very, very pregnant...and I was so happy to have the time available to schedule baby Ben.  We still had time to plan her style and discuss the colors she likes for the session.  We still had time to plan the parent clothing options for the family portion of the session.  Once baby Ben was born, she simply texted me from the hospital and we scheduled the actual newborn session date.  When everyone was home from the hospital we finalized all the details of the session by phone and talked about what to bring, how to prepare baby for the best and most comfortable newborn session possible :)

Baby Ben was a dreamy baby for his session.  He spent most of the time asleep and when he was awake, he was still so content.  Most of the time when a newborn is awake, they flail their arms and startle themselves (a natural newborn reflex).  Ben was completely comfortable and warm on the soft posing beanbag... he was so precious.

I love newborn peeling feet!  It is something that only lasts for a short while when they are fresh and new.

So, in conclusion, it is best to pre-schedule your newborn session a few months in advance, somewhere around the 20 week ultrasound is best.  Although, scheduling 9 months in advance is fine too.  I would simply add your expected due date (EDD) to the calendar and be in touch with you over the pregnancy.   We can even schedule a Maternity Session to remember this special time in your life  (I have a special Bump and Baby Package for that).  There is  limited availability during the weekdays to schedule newborn sessions and if there is a baby boom, I may not be able to schedule a last minute newborn session, so please contact me as soon as possible to start planning your custom boutique newborn session.

A big congratulations to the H family on your newest blessing!  Thank you for having me as your newborn photographer.
